Google Instant Optimization

Google Instant is a feature that predicts what you’re searching for and shows results as you type. It uses Google’s auto complete technology to show predicted search terms in a drop-down box, and begins to display search results below the drop-down. As you continue to type, both the predicted queries and the search results change.


Google says there are three benefits to using Instant:

Faster Searches  – By predicting your search and showing results before you finish typing, Google Instant can save 2-5 seconds per search according to Google research.

Smarter Predictions – Though you may not know what you are looking for, predictions assist in guiding your search. Top predictions are shown in grey text in the search box, if you see what you like, you can simply stop typing and hit enter to go to the results page.
Instant Results – Start typing and results appear right before your eyes. Until now, you had to type a full search term, hit return, and hope for the right results. Now results appear instantly as you type, helping you see where you’re headed, every step of the way.

Where & When Is Google Instant Available?

Google Instant only works for searchers in the US or who are logged in to a Google account in selected countries outside the US:
Google Instant is starting to rollout to users on Google domains in the US, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Russia who use the following browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari for Mac and Internet Explorer.

How Google Instant Works

Google Instant is localized. The predictions and search results that Google Instant displays will change depending on where Google thinks you’re located. As you might imagine, there are some inconsistencies with how this aspect has been implemented, and no doubt Google will continue to tweak what it considers to be (in) appropriate for inclusion in Google Instant.
